How to insert another document before a text in Word document?

2 mins read

Syncfusion Essential DocIO is a .NET Core Word library used to create, read, and edit Word documents programmatically without Microsoft Word or Interop dependencies. Using this library, you can insert another document before the placeholder text in the Word document using C#.

Steps to insert another document before the placeholder text in the Word document:

  1. Create a new C# .NET Core console application project. Create .NET Core console application in Visual Studio in ASP.NET Core Word
  2. Install the Syncfusion.DocIO.Net.Core NuGet package as a reference to your .NET Core applications from Add DocIO.Net.Core NuGet packages of ASP.NET Core Word
  3. Include the following namespace in the Program.cs file:

using Syncfusion.DocIO;
using Syncfusion.DocIO.DLS;
  1. Use the following code example to insert another document before the placeholder text in the Word document:

//Open the file as a stream.
using (FileStream sourceStreamPath = new FileStream(Path.GetFullPath(@"../../../Data/SourceDocument.docx"), FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.ReadWrite))
    //Load the file stream into a Word document.
    using (WordDocument sourceDocument = new WordDocument(sourceStreamPath, FormatType.Automatic))
        using (FileStream destinationStreamPath = new FileStream(Path.GetFullPath(@"../../../Data/DestinationDocument.docx"), FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read, FileShare.ReadWrite))
            //Open the destination document.
            using (WordDocument destinationDocument = new WordDocument(destinationStreamPath, FormatType.Automatic))
                //Find the placeholder text in destination document.
                TextSelection textSelections = destinationDocument.Find("Product Overview", false, true);
                WTextRange textRange = textSelections.GetAsOneRange();
                //Get the paragraph index of the placeholder text.
                WParagraph paragraph = textRange.OwnerParagraph;
                int index = paragraph.OwnerTextBody.ChildEntities.IndexOf(paragraph);
                //Iterate source document.
                foreach (WSection sourceSection in sourceDocument.Sections)
                    foreach (Entity entity in sourceSection.Body.ChildEntities)
                        //Insert source document before the placeholder text.
                        textRange.OwnerParagraph.OwnerTextBody.ChildEntities.Insert(index, entity.Clone());
                //Create a file stream.
                using (FileStream outputFileStream = new FileStream(Path.GetFullPath(@"../../../Sample.docx"), FileMode.Create, FileAccess.ReadWrite))
                    //Save the Word document to the file stream.
                    destinationDocument.Save(outputFileStream, FormatType.Docx);
