How to change the image size during Markdown to Word conversion

4 mins read

Syncfusion® Essential® DocIO is a .NET Word library used to create, read, edit, and convert Word documents programmatically without Microsoft Word or interop dependencies. Using this library, you can change the image size during Markdown to Word conversion using C#.

Steps to change the image size during Markdown to Word conversion:

1. Create a new .NET Core console application project. Create console application in Visual Studio
2. Install the Syncfusion.DocIO.Net.Core NuGet package as a reference to your project from NuGet.org.
Add DocIO NuGet package reference to the project

Starting with v16.2.0.x, if you reference Syncfusion® assemblies from trial setup or from the NuGet feed, include a license key in your projects. Refer to the link to learn about generating and registering a Syncfusion® license key in your application to use the components without trail message.

1. Include the following namespaces in Program.cs file
C#
using Syncfusion.DocIO.DLS;
using Syncfusion.DocIO;
using System.Net;
1. Use the following code example to change the image size during Markdown to Word conversion.
C#
using (FileStream inputFileStream = new FileStream(Path.GetFullPath(@"Data/Input.md"), FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read))
{
// Create a Word document instance.
using (WordDocument document = new WordDocument())
{
// Hook the event to customize the image while importing Markdown.
document.MdImportSettings.ImageNodeVisited += MdImportSettings_ImageNodeVisited;
// Open the input Markdown file.
document.Open(inputFileStream, FormatType.Markdown);
// Find a picture by its alternative text and resize it.
WPicture picture = document.FindItemByProperty(EntityType.Picture, "AlternativeText", "Mountain") as WPicture;
picture.Height = 250;
picture.Width = 250;
// Save the modified document.
using (FileStream outputFileStream = new FileStream(Path.GetFullPath(@"Output/Result.docx"), FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write))
{
document.Save(outputFileStream, FormatType.Docx);
}
}
}
1. Use the following event handler to load the image based on the image source path when importing the Markdown files.
C#
///

/// Customizes image loading from local and remote sources during Markdown import.
///

static void MdImportSettings_ImageNodeVisited(object sender, Syncfusion.Office.Markdown.MdImageNodeVisitedEventArgs args)
{
// Set the image stream based on the image name from the input Markdown.
if (args.Uri == "Road-550.png")
args.ImageStream = new FileStream(Path.GetFullPath(@"Data/Road-550.png"), FileMode.Open);
// Retrieve the image from the website and use it.
else if (args.Uri.StartsWith("https://"))
{
WebClient client = new WebClient();
// Download the image as a stream.
byte[] image = client.DownloadData(args.Uri);
Stream stream = new MemoryStream(image);
// Set the retrieved image from the input Markdown.
args.ImageStream = stream;
}
}
