How to add rows with dynamic data into an existing table in Word document

5 mins read

Syncfusion® Essential® DocIO is a .NET Word library used to create, read, edit, and convert Word documents programmatically without Microsoft Word or interop dependencies. Using this library, you can add rows with dynamic data into an existing table in Word document using C#.

Steps to add rows with dynamic data into an existing table in Word document:

  1. Create a new .NET Core console application project. Create console application in Visual Studio
  2. Install the Syncfusion.DocIO.Net.Core NuGet package as a reference to your project from NuGet.org.
    Install DocIO .NET Core NuGet package

Starting with v16.2.0.x, if you reference Syncfusion® assemblies from trial setup or from the NuGet feed, include a license key in your projects. Refer to the link to learn about generating and registering a Syncfusion® license key in your application to use the components without trail message.

  1. Include the following namespaces in Program.cs file
    C#
using Syncfusion.DocIO;
using Syncfusion.DocIO.DLS;
  1. Use the following code example to add rows with dynamic data into an existing table in Word document.
    C#
using (FileStream inputStream = new FileStream(@"Data/Template.docx", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read))
{
   // Open an existing Word document.
   using (WordDocument document = new WordDocument(inputStream, FormatType.Automatic))
   {
       // Find the table with title.
       WTable table = document.FindItemByProperty(EntityType.Table, "Title", "Template") as WTable;
       // Check if the table with the specified title was found.
       if (table != null)
       {
           // Define new data to add to the table.
           List<string[]> rowData =
           [
               ["3.", "Banana", "20"],
               ["4.", "Grapes", "70"]
           ];
           for (int j = 0; j < rowData.Count; j++)
           {
               string[] data = rowData[j];
               // Add a new row to the table.
               WTableRow row = table.AddRow(false);
               for (int i = 0; i < data.Length; i++)
               {
                   string cellData = data[i];
                   // Get the cell at the current index.
                   WTableCell cell = row.Cells[i];
                   // Add a paragraph to the cell.
                   WParagraph cellParagraph = cell.AddParagraph() as WParagraph;
                   // Add the cell data as text within the cell's paragraph.
                   cellParagraph.AppendText(cellData);
               }
           }
       }
       using (FileStream outputStream = new FileStream(@"Output/Result.docx", FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write))
       {
           // Save the modified Word document.
           document.Save(outputStream, FormatType.Docx);
       }
   }
}
