How to change the size of Form Fields in ASP.NET Core Word?
Syncfusion; Essential; DocIO is a .NET Word library used to create, read, edit, and convert Word documents programmatically without Microsoft Word or interop dependencies. Using this library, you can change the size of form fields in Word document using C#.
The size of a checkbox field can be set, but the height of a text form field and dropdown form field cannot be fixed. The text and dropdown form field automatically adjusts based on the text entered. However, changing the font size will make the field expand to fit the content.
Steps to change the size of form fields in Word document:
- Create a new .NET Core console application project.
- Install the Syncfusion.DocIO.Net.Core NuGet package as a reference to your project from NuGet.org.
Starting with v16.2.0.x, if you reference Syncfusion® assemblies from trial setup or from the NuGet feed, include a license key in your projects. Refer to the link to learn about generating and registering a Syncfusion® license key in your application to use the components without trail message.
- Include the following namespaces in Program.cs file
C#
using Syncfusion.DocIO.DLS;
using Syncfusion.DocIO;
- Use the following code example to change the size of form fields in Word document.
C#
// Open the template Word document.
using (FileStream fileStream = new FileStream(Path.GetFullPath(@"Data/Template.docx"), FileMode.Open, FileAccess.ReadWrite))
{
using (WordDocument document = new WordDocument(fileStream, FormatType.Docx))
{
// Update checkbox form fields
List<Entity> checkBoxes = document.FindAllItemsByProperty(EntityType.CheckBox, null, null);
foreach (Entity entity in checkBoxes)
{
WCheckBox checkBox = (WCheckBox)entity;
checkBox.SizeType = CheckBoxSizeType.Exactly;
checkBox.CheckBoxSize = 20;
}
// Update dropdown form fields
List<Entity> dropDowns = document.FindAllItemsByProperty(EntityType.DropDownFormField, null, null);
foreach (Entity entity in dropDowns)
{
SetFontSizeForFormField((WDropDownFormField)entity);
}
// Update text form fields
List<Entity> textFormFields = document.FindAllItemsByProperty(EntityType.TextFormField, null, null);
foreach (Entity entity in textFormFields)
{
SetFontSizeForFormField((WTextFormField)entity);
}
// Save the modified document
using (FileStream outputStream = new FileStream(Path.GetFullPath(@"Output/Result.docx"), FileMode.Create, FileAccess.ReadWrite))
{
document.Save(outputStream, FormatType.Docx);
}
}
}
- Use the following code example to set the font size for text ranges within a form field.
C#
/// <summary>
/// Sets the font size for text ranges within a form field until the Field End marker is reached.
/// </summary>
static void SetFontSizeForFormField(Entity formField)
{
Entity currentEntity = formField;
while (currentEntity.NextSibling != null)
{
if (currentEntity is WTextRange textRange)
{
textRange.CharacterFormat.FontSize = 20;
}
else if (currentEntity is WFieldMark fieldMark && fieldMark.Type == FieldMarkType.FieldEnd)
{
break;
}
currentEntity = (Entity)currentEntity.NextSibling;
}
}
