Xamarin project template issue with Visual Studio 2017 (15.7.4 and later).

The Syncfusion® Xamarin Project Template (v16.2.0.41) may throw an exception when creating a new project in Visual Studio 2017 (version 15.7.4 and later).

Syncfusion Xamarin project template (v16.2.0.41) will throw exception in Visual Studio 2017 (15.7.4 and later).

This issue occurs due to an incorrect method used by the project template to retrieve the Android SDK installation path from the Windows registry in Visual Studio 2017 (15.7.4 and later).

To resolve this issue, you need to replace a shared patch file and reinstall the Syncfusion® Xamarin Project Template extension v16.2.0.41.

Steps to Apply the Fix

  1. Download the Xamarin project template patch and extract the ZIP file
  2. Delete the existing Project Templates folder from the following location:
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Syncfusion\Essential Studio\Xamarin\16.2.0.41\Utilities\Extensions\Xamarin\
  1. Copy the extracted Project Templates folder to the same location.
  2. Reinstall the updated Syncfusion® Xamarin Project Template extension by following the steps in the Knowledge Base article below:
    https://help.syncfusion.com/common/essential-studio/utilities#vsix-installer

After completing these steps, the issue will be resolved, and you should be able to create new Syncfusion® Xamarin projects successfully in Visual Studio 2017.
