How to sort files on load and maintain them in FileExplorer?

1 min read

The FileExplorer control is sorted based on “name” by default and on changing the sort order, it is not maintained while navigating through folders. This is the behavior in FileExplorer. However, it is possible to sort files on loading and maintain them for all the folders. This can be achieved by invoking the FileExplorer’s private sorting method in beforeAjaxRequest and select event. Please check below code snippet,

<ej:FileExplorer ID="fileexplorer" ClientSideOnSelect="Select"ClientSideOnBeforeAjaxRequest="beforeAjaxSend" runat="server"CssClass="myFileBrowser" IsResponsive="true" Width="100%"AjaxAction="FileExplorerFeatures.aspx/FileActionDefault"Path="~/content/images/FileExplorer/" Layout="Tile"></ej:FileExplorer>

<script>

//Select event function of FileExplorer

function Select(args) {

        var fileObj = $("#<%=fileexplorer.ClientID%>").data("ejFileExplorer");

        if (fileObj.option("selectedItems").length === 0) {

            //Invoking FileExplorer sorting method with dateModified sort type

            fileObj._sorting("dateModified"true);

            fileObj._sortingActioncomplete();

        }

}

//BeforeAjaxRequest event function of FileExplorer

function beforeAjaxSend(args) {

         //Ajax successAfter event

        args.ajaxSettings.successAfter = function (args) {

            var fileObj = $("#<%=fileexplorer.ClientID%>").data("ejFileExplorer");

            //Invoking FileExplorer sorting method with dateModified sort type

            fileObj._sorting("dateModified"true);

            fileObj._sortingActioncomplete();

        }

}

</script>

In the above code, we have sorted the FileExplorer based on “dateModified”.

Final output

Sorted FileExplorer
