How do I switch between the different versions of Syncfusion Essential Studio I have in my system?

The Syncfusion assemblies in a machine will be installed in the GAC and the public assemblies folder ( C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Common7\IDE\PublicAssemblies\ ). The precompiled assemblies is the location where the original copy of the Syncfusion assemblies shipped with the Essential Studio are located. The assemblies in the folder will be used during the particular version installation or when a user is reverting back from another version to this version.

Assemblies Folder:

The pre 4.x installations of Syncfusion will have an Assemblies folder. Say for example, if you have the version 3.2, then there will be an Assemblies folder,

C:\Program Files\Syncfusion\Essential Suite\3.2.0.10\Assemblies\

If you are using the version 3.3.x.x, then this folder will be,

C:\Program Files\Syncfusion\Essential Studio\3.3.0.0\Assemblies\

from where the Syncfusion assemblies will be picked up. If the assemblies folder is not there, the VisualStudio will by default search for the project reference assemblies in the public assemblies folder,

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Common7\IDE\PublicAssemblies\

So inorder to avoid multiple copying of the same assemblies, the use of the Assemblies folder was removed in the 4.x versions and the public assemblies folder is used.

Syncfusion installation while using multiple versions:

When you are using multiple versions, please do the following to ensure that you are running in the proper version.

Rename the C:\Program Files\Syncfusion\Essential Studio\Assemblies folder and the C:\Program Files\Syncfusion\Essential Suite\Assemblies folder, if found. This will avoid the false pickup of assemblies. Hereafter the project reference assemblies will be picked from the public assemblies(C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Common7\IDE\PublicAssemblies) folder alone.

Be sure that you have installed the required versions of Syncfusion Essential Studio(Suite) in the machine.

Setting version 4.2 from the version 3.2

1) Open the Assembly Manager utility from the following location,

Start --> All Programs --> Syncfusion --> Essential Studio 4.2.0.37 --> Utilities --> AssemblyManager

2) In the Action groupbox, select remove all versions and then click perform action. This will remove all the versions of Syncfusion assemblies installed in the given machine from the public assemblies folder and the GAC.

3) Then, in the Action groupbox, select Install version 4.2.0.37 and then click perform action. This will install the Syncfusion assemblies of version 4.2.0.37 in the public assemblies folder and the GAC. Your machine is now set to the version 4.2.0.37.

Setting version 3.2 from the version 4.2

1) Open the Assembly Manager utility from the following location,

Start --> All Programs --> Syncfusion --> Essential Studio 4.2.0.37 --> Utilities --> AssemblyManager

2) In the Action groupbox, select remove all versions and then click perform action. This will remove all the versions of Syncfusion assemblies installed in the given machine from the public assemblies folder and the GAC.

3) Then please try copying the Syncfusion assemblies from the C:\Program Files\Syncfusion\Essential Studio\3.2.x.x\Precompiledassemblies\3.2.x.x\1.1 folder and then place them in the C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Common7\IDE\PublicAssemblies folder.

4) Drag and drop the Syncfusion assemblies from the public assemblies folder(C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003\Common7\IDE\PublicAssemblies) in to the GAC.

Now the machine is set for the 3.2.x version.
